Weight loss is goal for many during the year especially during the spring and summer months.
What about those fall and winter months though. The holidays and the homemade cooking can be brutal. These are often the times that we put back on our hard earned weight loss earlier in the year. There are some things we can do to avoid this big weight gain during the holidays.
First of all think about what you struggle with the most when it comes to food during the holidays. Write these things down and make a note of them in your mind and even on the fridge. Once you find a few of your biggest struggles think of solutions to help avoid the temptations entirely or just how to keep everything in moderation.
You may love all the sweets during the holidays. It is not to say you cannot have them. What you can do though is set a limit on how many you can have.
You could set a size limit as well. This way you can try most of them sweet treats but just not the entire piece.
Another common issue may be you just overeat all the food even the healthy food! With this make a conscious effort to keep portion sizes smaller. Drink plenty of water during the day and have a glass of water before your meals as well. This will help you feel full so that you do not overeat.
One other common weight gainer a lot of people forget: Make sure you do not drink all your calories. While it is great to have different beverages, often times beverages other than water will have 100-300 calories in them — and some, even more. Add that up a few times a day and well you get the point.
Try to have plain water and if you would like to add some flavor have a green tea or use a lemon or lime in your water. If you need a little extra help as many of us do find a health professional that can help you with your goals and those holiday cravings.
